God’s Wife

bigstock-Classic-man-shoes-33845657 There are gushy stories that manipulate the emotions—then there are tales that genuinely pluck the strings of your heart. It’s a very fine line between the two.

The following story plays beautiful music on my heart strings. This one came to me through the Internet. I came within a breath of banishing it as the cyber-trash but I salvaged it. This is more than just another Good Samaritan tale. It’s a challenge to each of us to live up to our royal heritage.

It was a cold December day in New York City. A little boy stood in front of a shoe store on Broadway, barefoot and shivering. He peered intently through the plate glass window. A woman walked up to the boy and asked, “Little fellow, why are you looking into that window so earnestly?”

“I was asking God to give me a pair of shoes,” the boy replied.

The lady studied him for a moment, then quietly took him by the hand. Together they walked into the shoe store. Inside, she asked the clerk to bring a half-dozen pairs of socks for the boy. Then she asked for a basin of water and a towel. The clerk brought them quickly.

The woman took the little boy to the rear of the store, removed her gloves then knelt and began to wash his feet. She dried them with the towel just as the clerk appeared with the socks. The woman placed a pair of socks on the boy’s feet and selected a pair of shoes in his size. She bundled the remaining socks, and handed him the package.

As they left the store the woman patted the boy on the head. “I hope you feel more comfortable now,” she smiled.

She turned to go but, the wide-eyed little boy caught her by the hand. He looked up into her face and asked, “Are you God’s wife?”

Question: I couldn’t help but wonder how many lives I touch in a way that makes people wonder if I am directly related to God? How about you? You can leave a comment by clicking here.

  1. When I was about 15, my grandfather was in a hospital 3 hours away, my grandmother was with him. I had to stay home because of school but when Christmas vacation came I could go to Colorado Springs to be with them but didn’t have any place to stay. A sweet friend that I had met as a freshman in school lived there so I called her, the parents said I could stay with them. Got on Trailways and went to see my grandparents for Christmas. Well, a week there, God was active through these people. They gave me a bed, food, gloves for Christmas, loaned me clothes to wear for church on Christmas Eve, treated me as a daughter, not a visitor but the most special part, they saw to it that my Grandmother got some fresh fruit to have at the hospital and motel, that they both had a poinsetta for Granddad’s room and the requested carolers to go sing to Grandad and Grandma on Christmas eve. Even at that “stupid” age I was so touched. Christ was definitely in Christmas that year.

  2. I have been so protective of my heart and children a very long time. I will give anything to anyone. I pray that I am broken more to help people see GOD when they see me. Thank you very much. There are wonderful people in the world. They are difficult to see sometimes because the mean ones are yelling….. 🙂

  3. I work at children’s museum and had met a grandmother who brings her 2 nieces over once a year. They had recognized me from the previous year and I had given the nieces both a huge hug, lifted them up and gave them a spin. Afterwards, the grandmother pulls me to the side and tells me how much of a blessing that was because herself, their grandfather, and parents all have had back problems and were never able to lift them up as I just did. I was so touched, I tell you, to be able to do something as simple as that for someone is faith at work! It’s a simple reminder to never take the small things for granted! I strive now to always let those around me see God within me! God Bless!!
